NORWOOD, N.C. — A volunteer firefighter died in a crash today in Stanly County.
Chris Coone volunteered with Center Rural Fire Department, and also ran the town of Norwood’s Water and Sewer Department.
He crashed into the back of a semitruck, while working for the town Tuesday afternoon.
Norwood town officials posted the following to Facebook:
The 28-year-old has a wife and two little girls.
"The Town of Norwood employees and Board of Commissioners are deeply saddened to learn that our employee, Chris Coone, passed away this afternoon following a motor vehicle traffic accident.
Chris was an exemplary employee and public servant.
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family today, and to his brotherhood of firefighters who lost one of their own today. God help them through this difficult time."
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at noon at Norwood Center Rural Fire Department. Rev. Mike Lisk will officiate and burial will follow at Norview Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel.
