CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 350 employees at Morrison Healthcare in Charlotte will lose their jobs after the company issued a warn notice Tuesday.
Those 360 positions are at the Carolinas Medical Center-Main Rehabilitation campus.
The job losses are permanent and will take effect in April, the notice read.
It's not clear why the positions are being eliminated.
Statement on Change in Food Vendors
To ensure we receive the best combination of quality and value from our vendors, Carolinas HealthCare System routinely bids out major contracts. In 2015, we solicited bids for our food and nutrition services contract and conducted a comprehensive evaluation, which resulted in Morrison and Sodexo being our two finalist vendors. After careful review, Carolinas HealthCare System has signed a contract to change food service vendors from Morrison and Aramark to Sodexo. The new agreement will apply to our 23 CHS-owned locations, as well as Cone Health and New Hanover Regional Medical Center, beginning early in 2016. Both Morrison and Sodexo submitted strong proposals; we have determined Sodexo is best suited to our needs as we seek to standardize operational efficiencies, enhance quality and improve cost across an ever-growing healthcare system. In terms of the status of those Morrison's food and nutrition services employees who have been serving Carolinas HealthCare System facilities, the intent is for employees to transition to Sodexo as long as they meet Sodexo employment criteria."
