Oaklore Distilling Co. opens in Matthews with big plans for growth

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Oaklore Distilling Co. is settling into its Matthews home — and its founders are already thinking about what’s next for the brand.

The microdistillery recently opened at 11136 Monroe Road, at the corner of Matthews-Mint Hill and Monroe roads in Matthews.

“We see this as just the beginning,” says Matt Simpkins.

Simpkins teamed up with friends Thomas Bogan and Travis Masters on that venture. It’s been roughly seven years since the friends began dabbling with their own spirits, infusing distillates with different flavor profiles. Support from friends and family led Simpkins, an ordained Lutheran pastor, and Bogan, who owns a construction company, to pursue distilling full time.
