MONROE, N.C. — An officer was hurt following the execution of a search warrant on an armed robbery suspect tied to crimes in Union and Richmond counties, Monroe police said.

Officers were at an apartment in Monroe to execute the search warrant on Tuesday when Scottavais Hailey ran from officers while in handcuffs, police said. An officer hit his head while tackling the suspect.
Hailey is in the Union County jail without bond. Hailey is facing multiple charges for two incidents in Union County. Earlier this month, records say Hailey robbed a Wingstop employee at gunpoint.
On Sept. 15, Hailey kidnapped someone during an armed robbery at the Indian Trail Tobacco and Vape, according to arrest records. He got away with hundreds of dollars. The arrest records also indicate that Hailey discharged his firearm inside the tobacco shop and was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.
On that same day, court records say that Hailey assaulted and robbed a woman in Richmond County. Rockingham Police say he stole a firearm and a woman’s purse.
In July 2025, Hailey was sentenced in Union County to 13-25 months in prison for a common law robbery conviction tied to a 2023 case. Court records say Hailey had jail credit and was released from prison in December 2025. He served probation, which ended in August.
