HICKORY, N.C. — Hickory police have confirmed one person was killed and another was hurt in an officer-involved shooting Friday morning.
It happened in the Kenworth neighborhood in Hickory, along 5th Street Southeast. Much of the street is now closed for the investigation.
Police say one man was shot and killed on the front porch of his home. Witnesses told Channel 9’s Dave Faherty they heard officers order the man several times to drop his weapon. Two neighbors said officers fired after he pointed a gun at them.

A second person was also shot inside an SUV two blocks away. Neighbors say the gunman fired his weapon multiple times before police arrived on scene. Investigators believe some of those rounds struck the SUV as it was passing by the home, hitting the driver twice. They were rushed to the hospital. So far, there is no update on their condition.
Along Fifth Street, police laid evidence markers at multiple rounds on the road. Police are confirming that is where at least two officers fired at the homeowner.
“They were trying to get him to set the gun down for about a minute,” Corey Goble, a neighbor, said. “It looked like he was swinging the gun around, and that’s when they fired. He was swinging the gun around, so I don’t know what else they could have done.”
The State Bureau of Investigation arrived on scene just after 11 a.m.
