MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Police told Channel 9 that an intoxicated driver hit and killed a pedestrian outside a Mooresville shopping center Wednesday night.

Authorities said 52-year-old Jeffrey Archer was crossing Williamson Road at Marketplace Avenue around 7 p.m. when 30-year-old Claydon Turner hit him.

Manager Wesley Davidson said Archer did all he could to make the community better.

Archer was the owner of First Flight Bikes in Statesville.

Turner was charged with death by motor vehicle, and DWI.

People brought flowers and notes to the store today to say goodbye.

“He was just a fantastic guy and everybody knew it. He touched a lot of people,” Davidson said.

Officers wouldn’t say what drug they believe Turner was using.  He is slated to appear in court again early next month.

The crash is still under investigation.
