CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said a car crash on Arrowood Road left one person dead and others injured.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department blocked off sections of the road for hours, re-routing traffic, as fire and medics treated victims in two cars.
"It was like something off a movie," said Damon Streater, an eyewitness who was behind one of the vehicles in the crash. "The whole front side of the car was just gone. I've never seen anything like that before."
He said he saw a silver Mustang coming up toward them.
"As he was coming, he fishtailed and spun out, and hit the Honda clear off the road," Streater said.
Streater said the driver of the Mustang was hanging out of the passenger window. As others in his car called 911, he jumped out and tried to help.
"His face was bleeding. There was blood all over the ground. I checked his pulse. It was very faint," he said.
Police said that man, identified as Demond Cedric Strothers, 32, didn't make it.
"It was traumatizing. I was confused at first. I was in shock. I couldn't believe it," Streater said.
Neighbors who live in the area say this stretch of Arrowood Road is known to be dangerous.
"The cars up there are sometimes coming in faster," Maria Perea said.
Carolinas Medical Center is treating three people for life-threatening injuries because of the accident.
