CMPD: 1 shot near Southpark Mall after altercation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person was shot after an altercation Monday night near Southpark Mall, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police responded to shots fired at about 6:30 p.m. in the 4400 block of Sharon Road near Southpark Mall, officials said.

Two people in their vehicles got into an altercation near the mall's entrance when the shots were fired, according to police.

One person shot from a vehicle hitting the other person and the vehicle and both fled the scene.

The incident occurred in the roadway and had no connection to South Park Mall, police said.

The shooting victim showed up at Northeast Regional Medical Center and is expected to be OK, officials said.

No one was in custody Monday night.

There was a hit-and-run incident also reported at the intersection of Morrison Boulevard and Sharon Road that is believed to be connected to the shooting.
