An inmate from the Rowan County Detention Center escaped Saturday night, officials said.
Deputies said Timothy Clarence Smith Jr. escaped from the second floor of the Rowan County Detention Center around 9:30 p.m.
The 32-year-old was awaiting trial for a murder committed in 2016, officials said.
Smith was taken into custody by deputies after a short foot chase at an apartment on Gaskey Road in Salisbury, officials said.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said Smith will face additional charges from his escape and his attempt to run from deputies.
