ROCK HILL, S.C. — Authorities have arrested a man accused of shooting another man to death and stealing his car last week in Rock Hill.

York County officials said Scottie Starnes, 45, was found dead last Saturday along Old Friendship Road. His car was also missing.

On Friday, York County detectives, with the help of Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, found the vehicle in Charlotte and subsequently located 22-year-old Charles Ridings. He was arrested and officials told Channel 9 he confessed to killing Starnes.

“Our detectives and criminal intelligence unit hard worked many long hours with relentless pursuit, to capture Ridings,” said Sheriff Kevin Tolson. “We are grateful for the partnership with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, for without their cooperation and assistance this case may not have been solved as quickly.”

Ridings has been charged with murder, grand larceny, and armed robbery.

He is being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail awaiting extradition back to York County.
