Officials identify pedestrian struck by train in Gastonia

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A man was taken to a hospital after being hit by a train, according to a Gaston County EMS official.

The incident happened around 2:50 p.m. Friday.

The man, identified as 31-year-old Alan Christopher Jackson of Gastonia, suffered a fracture to his femur and a possible head injury, officials said. He was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center. Officials said he was conscious at the time of transport.

A Norfolk Southern spokesman said a man was hit while walking on the tracks. The spokesman said the train was heading to Linwood from Birmingham, Ala. carrying mixed freight.
