CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Inspired by the recent school shootings, some Olympic High School students are using their skills to keep their school safe.
The school's Academy of Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing designed the barricades to enhance safety during a lockdown.
The students posted a video online that shows how the device works.
They hope the device offers safety and peace of mind for all classrooms.
Students wanted to design, engineer and manufacture as a cost-effective solution.
The students said they were inspired by the work a Wisconsin student was doing.
The barricades can work on both out-swing and in-swing doors.
These barricades can be made for just $75 a door.
The students also designed a door hinge cover that would also prevent the door from opening.
