CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested 47 people and seized 12 illegal firearms in July as part of an ongoing multi-agency enforcement initiative in north Charlotte. The effort, known as Operation Nite Shade, targets the Sugar Creek and Reagan Road corridor.

The North Tryon Division of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is leading the operation to clean up the area and disrupt local criminal activity. Police identified the neighborhood near Regan Drive and Sugar Creek as a recognized hotspot for crime and victimization.
During the month of July, officers with the North Tryon Division conducted 529 traffic stops. These enforcement actions resulted in 309 citations issued to drivers within the Sugar Creek and Regan Drive area. Drinking or drug use was not specified as a factor in these stops.
In addition to the 47 arrests made throughout the month, law enforcement officers served four fugitive or outstanding warrants. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department stated that the initiative is designed to disrupt criminal activity and reduce victimization in the neighborhood.
Search and seizure efforts during the operation led to the recovery of more than 350 grams of suspected narcotics. Officers also seized 12 illegal firearms and numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia during the July enforcement period. Officials identified the corridor as a recognized hotspot within the north Charlotte area.
Operation Nite Shade remains active as the North Tryon Division continues its work in the Sugar Creek and Reagan Road corridor. Further results from the multi-agency initiative are expected as the enforcement efforts continue.
