Community members in Charlotte came together to raise awareness about domestic violence.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and other agencies took part in a walk-run at Alexander Graham Middle School in south Charlotte.

Assistant District Attorney Jamie Adams hopes the event will help people come forward about abuse.

Proceeds raised from the event went to the United Family Services’ Shelter for Battered Women in Mecklenburg County.

“It’s even more important for people who live in the apartment complex upstairs from a domestic violence victim and they hear it going on and they don’t call police or they don’t try to get involved,” Adams said. “We’re trying to raise awareness for those type of people.”
