CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UPDATE: Ginny Walsh, 3, died in the hospital after being critically injured in a Lincoln County crash last month.
The father of two little girls who were critically injured, along with their mother, in a wreck Saturday said he is comforted by all the well wishes and prayers.
Tori Walsh, 11, and Ginny Walsh, 3, are recovering at Levine Children's hospital. As of Monday morning, they were both still listed in critical condition.
According to state troopers, the girl's mother, Rebecca Walsh, was driving north on Highway 321 when she somehow lost control of the SUV and wrecked.
Officials said the vehicle rolled three times, and the two girls were ejected from the SUV.
Friends told Eyewitness News that the family was headed to a pageant in Valdese.
Rebecca Walsh was listed in fair condition Wednesday afternoon. There are no available updates on the conditions of the girls.
On Monday, the girl's father sent Eyewitness News Reporter Blake Hanson a text and said, "I want to thank everyone for the prayers and well wishes. It has been a comfort to our family."
Family friends have discussed setting up a Caring Bridge page as well as a benefit pageant. The details for both are still being ironed out.
Cards, donations, and well-wishes can be mailed to the Walsh Family Benefit, P.O. Box 923, Mooresville, NC 28115.
Pageant community praying for girls, mother critically injured in wreck
Old Rock School in Valdese is where Tori and Ginny were supposed to take the stage this weekend for the 2015 Carolina Southern Regal State Pageant. Instead, the young sisters are fighting to survive after a tragic car crash.
“As a parent, it is unimaginable,” said Megan Long, whose daughter competed in the pageant this weekend. “A lot of mothers here have been teary eyed all weekend.”
Friends of the family said the girls’ mother was driving her daughters to the beauty pageant when the crash happened Saturday morning around 9 a.m.
For many parents and their children who compete in pageants, the crash hits close to home. Many people heard the tragic news through either social media or once they arrived to the competition Saturday.
“They rallied in the lobby of a hotel room to have prayer,” said Long, who described both girls as beautiful and precious.
“They made the announcement before the pageant started,” Evelyn Probst said. “The whole audience prayed.”
The girls are also described as full of life and talented and their mother, always their biggest fan.
Tori and Ginny both earned a crown in the NC USA Ambassador Charlotte competition just this past March.
The pageant’s director, Penny Kipper, has decided to collect greeting cards to help the family through this difficult time, as well as gift cards to help with food and supplies, as the husband and two sons of the family remain in and out of the hospital.
“God still works miracles, so we are definitely praying that he’s going to work a miracle for them,” Long said.
"We love them. We're praying for them. The entire pageant community is just praying for them and we want them to focus on getting well," Kipper said.
All proceeds from the Crowns for Love Charity pageant hosted by Elite Miss North Carolina will be donated to the Walsh family. The pageant will be held at Brookford community building within the next two weeks.
