Pair charged with trafficking $42K worth of heroin in Lancaster County

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — Deputies said two men were arrested Thursday night in Lancaster County for trafficking $42,000 worth of heroin.

According to deputies, Demarkio Ingram, 29, and Berry McIlwain, 29, were arrested during an investigation into Ingram, who was wanted on a previous drug trafficking charge.

Officials said the men met up at a McDonald's on Highway 9 around 10 p.m. and when McIlwain got into Ingram's car, authorities swooped in to arrest them.

According to deputies, when they took Ingram out of his car, he shoved one of the agents and tossed a bag containing 42 grams of suspected heroin as he ran across Highway 9.

Ingram was eventually caught near a ramp to Highway 200.

Deputies said they found 98 more grams of suspected heroin and over $4,000 in cash when they searched Ingram's car and a .380 caliber semiautomatic pistol was found in the car McIlwain was driving.

According to deputies, they seized 140 grams of suspected heroin worth $42,000 during the search.

Ingram was arrested on his previous warrant and is now facing additional charges, including trafficking heroin over 28 grams, trafficking heroin in proximity to Constitution Park and assaulting an officer while resisting arrest.

McIlwain is charged with trafficking heroin over 28 grams, trafficking heroin in proximity to Constitution Park, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, and possession of a pistol by a person convicted of a crime of violence.
