Panthers trim roster to regular-season limit 53 players

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers trimmed their roster to the mandated 53-player limit.

Among the cuts were 2017 third-round draft pick Daeshon Hall, of Texas A&M, and wide receiver Mose Frazier, who scored three preseason touchdowns.

The Panthers are sticking with two quarterbacks – Cam Newton and Taylor Heinicke – after parting ways with Garrett Gilbert and Kyle Allen.

More Panthers coverage:

Austin Duke, a former UNC Charlotte wide receiver, was let go, as were cornerback LaDarius Gunter and safeties Demetrious Cox and Dezmen Southward, who recorded snaps last season.

Former Charlotte Catholic and North Carolina standout Elijah Hood was placed on injured reserve after getting injured in the final preseason game against Pittsburgh.

The Panthers added a 10th offensive lineman when they traded a 2020 seventh-round draft pick for Corey Robinson, who played his college ball at South Carolina and his high school ball in Havelock, North Carolina.

The Panthers open the season Sept. 9 against the Dallas Cowboys at Bank of America Stadium.
