CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Parents of Charlotte-Mecklenburg School students will have the chance to voice their opinions Wednesday night on the district's guiding principles for student assignment.
Last week, board members revealed the draft aimed to increase diversity and student success.

Channel 9 was the first to break this story for you months ago. Officials with CMS are discussing a way to increase diversity in city schools and improve performance.
District leaders want to reduce overcrowding and the number of schools with high concentrations of poor and high needs children.
Some parents are worried that would mean their children would have to go to a school far away from home.
In the newly released guiding principles draft, one provision states that every student will be assigned to a school near where he or she lives.
Some lawmakers are concerned that wording is too vague, and still may force children to go to a school outside their neighborhoods.
The school board will vote on the principles next Wednesday while tonight's meeting at the Government Center will begin at 6 p.m.
