CHARLOTTE — A man died after being hit by a box truck in southeast Charlotte on Saturday.
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on East Independence Blvd near Idlewild Road, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

MEDIC pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
On Monday, CMPD identified the victim as 56-year-old Leopoldo Villalpando-Castillo.
The police department said Castillo wasn’t in a crosswalk at the time of the crash.
Police said the driver in the box truck remained at the scene and wasn’t impaired.
