The accident happened just before 4:30 p.m. on the I-77 northbound ramp to the Interstate 485 inner ramp.

Officials shut down the ramp while they conducted an investigation, but it has since been reopened.

Troopers said a man was walking on the ramp when he was hit by a driver. The driver told law enforcement officers he didn't see the victim until it was too late.
