CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after emergency crews responded to a deadly “confined space rescue” at a construction site in northwest Charlotte.
Crews were called to a Gold Line Expansion construction site on Beatties Ford Road at French Street just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday to pull someone out of a hole that was filled with concrete.
Authorities have not said how that person ended up in the hole or why they were at the construction site, but their preliminary investigation indicates that it was an accident and no foul play is suspected.
At the scene, Channel 9 could see more than two dozen first responders including Charlotte Fire, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and MEDIC. Our crew reported over 30 people working together to rescue the victim.
Charlotte Fire said it took 35 minutes to rescue the victim, but they died from their injuries. They have not been identified but officials confirmed the victim was a pedestrian.
