HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — David Taylor was a little surprised at how quickly the more than 1,100 homeowners in Huntersville's Skybrook community voted to rescue its golf course from the ravages of bankruptcy and neglect.
Taylor, a member of the limited liability corporation Skybrook Golf formed to buy the course and rescue it, was expecting the neighborhood to take months to agree to an assessment that would raise $1.5 million for work on the course and clubhouse.

Instead, it took one month to get an 80% favorable vote to renovate the course with its bare spots on the greens and the clubhouse with what Taylor describes as a gothic décor. Both suffered from what he called a "decade of deferred maintenance."
After 12 weeks of work, during which both the clubhouse and course were closed for varying lengths of time, the initial two phases of work are complete at Skybrook. The community, staff, members, owners and Taylor are pleased.
