Pickup truck found abandoned after smashing into south Charlotte apartments

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said a pickup truck was found abandoned after it slammed into a south Charlotte apartment complex early Sunday morning.

The crash happened around 5:15 a.m. at an apartment complex on Kings Drive between Arrowood and Old Pineville roads.

Neighbors said they were shocked when they saw two people get out of the truck and flee the scene.

Channel 9 was there as crews pulled the white truck from the building so investigators could assess the damage.

CMPD said at least one person has been arrested in connection with the crash at this point.

Crews put up a sign deeming the building unsafe and quickly evacuated the apartments.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash is unclear at this point.
