GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Just over two years ago, Piedmont Lithium Inc. made its initial appearance before Gaston County leaders at a tense public meeting for its Carolina Lithium project. The company returned before the county’s board of commissioners Tuesday night to provide an update on its proposal for a massive mining operation there. It was also an effort to repair the company’s relationships and image in its home area.

Residents packed the chamber in opposition while county commissioners peppered company leaders about plans for the mine.
