PINEVILLE, N.C. — Pineville town leaders are discussing their next steps as a key vote on the I-77 South toll lane project approaches.
The town manager told Channel 9 that Pineville Town Council recently went into closed session to discuss the project and receive a briefing from its attorney on the legal issues surrounding the upcoming vote.
The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization is scheduled to reconsider the I-77 South project on Sept. 23.

Pineville Mayor Rev. Amelia Stinson-Wesley serves as the town’s representative on CRTPO.
She missed the original vote to rescind support for the project but told Channel 9 afterward that she would have voted to kill the project.
CRTPO voted in May to rescind its support for the public-private partnership funding mechanism for the project.
NCDOT said that decision led to the project being removed from the state transportation improvement program process.
