Pineville police officer, sergeant are being called heroes after helping save man’s life

PINEVILLE, N.C. — A Pineville officer and sergeant are being called heroes after helping save a man’s life.

The department said Patrol Officer Kakavitsas stopped a truck driver for showing signs of driving while intoxicated.

When Kakavitsas asked the driver where he was going, he said that he was taking a trailer to Walmart. Kakavitsas knew something was wrong because there was no trailer attached to the truck, the department said.

Sgt. Whitley then got to the scene, and they both realized the man was having some type of medical emergency.

They called medic and, once they got there, they saw possible warning signs of a stroke. The man was taken to a hospital and placed in intensive care.

He was released a week later and is now back home with his family.
