Police identify driver killed when car collides with tree in northeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — A man was killed Wednesday evening when the car he was driving ran off the road and crashed into a tree in northeast Charlotte, police said.

Officers told Channel 9 that 27-year-old Jesus Goana died in the crash, He was the only person in the car.

Investigators said Goana was driving a 1994 Honda Del Sol west on Orr Road, near Old Concord Road, just after 6 p.m. when he lost control of the car, slid off the left side of the road and crashed into a tree.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other cars were involved in the crash.

Police said they believe excessive speed played a role in the wreck but that impairment is not suspected.

The crash remains under investigation.
