A local veterinarian is trying to save a 10-week-old kitten’s eye after the cat was shot nine times with a BB gun.

It happened right in front of the 7-year-old who takes care of the cat.

Channel 9 reporter Greg Suskin spoke with the family and the vet about the horrible crime.

The suspect is listed as being 16 years old, but as of right now, deputies have not arrested him.

The kitten has lots of new friends at York Vet.

The vet’s office has recently adopted other hard-luck cases, including a cat with a heart condition and another that was hit by a car.

"I’m going to fix that eye,” veterinarian Ashely Isbell Goforth said.

But none are quite like a kitten nicknamed Survivor, who was shot several times.

Goforth said it's heart-breaking.

"Any time you hurt a little one, especially a kitten or a puppy, it is very sad," she said.

The kitten belongs to Vera Wilson's grandson.

"He was very upset, because you know he loves his cats," Wilson said.

Survivor was shot behind her house off Plaxco Road in York County, when Wilson said an older teen had a BB pistol and called the kitten to him.

"He had called the kitty cat, saying you know, 'Here kitty,' like that, to come out to him, and when the cat came out to him, he shot it,” Wilson said.

Goforth said she found more than an eye injury.

"He has one bullet that's still in his chest and two in his abdomen,” Goforth said.

An X-ray clearly reveals the BBs still inside the kitten. It's doubtful they will be removed.

Goforth said the kitten is eating and appears to be recovering. She's asking the same question, anyone else would.

"This sweet little thing, I mean, why would you do that to it?" she said.

York County sheriff's deputies are still investigating.
