CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Concord man is facing charges for sexually assaulting a University of North Carolina at Charlotte student inside her dorm room while she was sleeping.

Damien Pruitt, 21, was escorted into police headquarters on campus Friday evening on a charge of sexual battery.

Dressed in his work uniform, Pruitt wouldn't answered any questions in front of our cameras about what he is accused of doing.

Pruitt was arrested at his job at Jim and Nick's Barbeque in Concord about 12 hours after a female student told police she woke up to Pruitt in her bed.

Restaurant managers had no comment when asked about Pruitt.

Police said Pruitt is not a UNCC student. According to investigators, the victim's suitmates identified Pruitt because one of them knows him and he was a guest in their dorm that night, but he was a stranger to the victim.

"It's great that they got him," said student Dane Marino. "I was raised in the south and you treat a woman with respect so, for that to go through someone's mind is pretty messed up."

Pruitt has been in trouble three times before for underage consumption and stealing, according to Department of Corrections records.

School officials said no residence hall policies were violated in the incident.
