CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating a deadly crash involving a wrong-way driver and a CATS bus in north Charlotte early Saturday morning.
The collision happened just before 2 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 77 near Sunset Road.
Troopers said the car was driving in the wrong direction in the toll lanes on the I-77 when it crashed into the bus.
The driver died at the scene, but they have not been identified.
According to highway patrol, the driver entered Interstate 277 from South Boulevard and drove in the wrong direction on I-277 as well before coming onto I-77.
Officials said there weren’t any passengers on board the bus at the time of the collision, and the driver of the bus was not hurt.

The road reopened around 5 a.m.
