CHARLOTTE — Police were on the scene of a homicide Thursday morning in north Charlotte -- the most recent violent crime CMPD detectives have had to investigate in recent weeks.

Officers were called around 11:15 a.m. to McArthur Avenue, near Statesville and Atando avenues, for a report of shots being fired. When they got there, police found 43-year-old William Alexander who had been shot.

While on the scene of a different homicide on Wednesday night, CMPD Maj. Cecil Brisbon told Channel 9 that the recent string of violence across the city has them just as frustrated as neighbors.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

CMPD has not released any other information yet and it is unclear if anyone has been arrested.

“We need to find a way to change the hearts and minds of the people involved in this violence because this violence is doing nothing to our community but continuing to tear it apart,” he said.
