CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Joggers preparing for an early morning run in south Charlotte were shocked when someone walked up to them and flashed a gun.
They were robbed in the Charlotte Catholic High School parking lot at 5 a.m. Friday.
The crime happened about two hours before students arrived at Charlotte Catholic Friday morning.
The two joggers were part of an organized fitness group.
They were here together waiting for others to join them when a man with a gun appeared and forced them to lay on the ground.
He took their phones, credit cards, and cash.
Police said it is unusual to see a robbery like this at the school.
That's why Cole Evans comes to play soccer alone.
"I have never had any encounters with anybody. Everybody that's walking through here is always polite to me," Evans said.
He said he has always felt safe and there is usually a lot of traffic nearby, but now he will be more cautious.
Police said they don't believe students will become targets, but they are paying extra attention to this area after the crimes on Friday.
"That's very terrifying that you can't jog at 5 in the morning without being in harm's way,” said Monique Williams, a resident.
A spokesman for the school said they will not limit access to the school because of the robberies.
