MONROE, N.C. — A man has been arrested after a fight led to a fatal shooting in Monroe Friday evening, according to police.
Officers responded to Richardson Street, where they found 43-year-old Ricardo Mendez shot, lying in the front yard. Authorities confirmed he died at the scene.

Monroe Police learned Mendez got into an altercation with Antonio Palacios and that shots were fired. After Mendez was shot, officials said Palacios was seen running away from the scene.
A short time later, Palacios was found with a gun behind the home. Officers said Palacios admitted to shooting the victim.
No other details have been released at this point.
