Police: Deadly shooting in University City ruled justified

CHARLOTTE — The shooting death of a man in University City in January has been ruled a justified homicide, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Officers responded to the scene on Jan. 31 on Ivy Meadow Drive near Old Concord Road.

Authorities found a man, later identified as Lemuel Joseph Gipson, who had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Police have not said what led up to the shooting.

On Thursday, investigators said they decided, along with the district attorney, not to charge anyone in connection to the case.
