BELMONT, N.C. — Police told Eyewitness News that what happened at a Gaston County home is still under investigation.
Two people were shot, according to police, including Belmont police Officer Randy Berry. A woman was also shot, and both were taken to the hospital and expected to recover.
Police were initially called to the Reflection neighborhood after 6 p.m. after a gunshot call.
Police ended up on Lake Pointe Drive and there was a scuffle behind a home. During the fight with police, there were more gunshots.
"An officer was shot in the calf, a female was shot in the calf-leg area," said interim Chief David James withMount Holly police.
Police have not said if anyone was arrested. The State Bureau of Investigation is on scene because "an officer's gun was discharged."
They said the neighborhood is safe and no one is on the loose.
Neighbors were shaken after the incident.
"It doesn't make me feel real good right now," a neighbor said.
Berry has been with the police department for three years. Police did not say who shot the woman.
