CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives have arrested two people in connection with fatal shooting Thursday afternoon on Kings Ridge Drive.

Steele Creek Division patrol officers responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon with injuries at South Oak Crossing Apartments.

When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Bennett Eugene Miller suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 4:56 p.m.

Police took Antonio Cousart, 26, and Maurice Wilson, 22, into custody Friday morning.  They arrested Darryl Truesdale, 24, Friday afternoon.

Neighbors said Miller was at the complex visiting his children.

Detectives canvassed the neighborhood looking for witnesses.

Neighbors said they were too afraid to show their faces as they described to Eyewitness News what happened after gunfire erupted.

Residents said they heard a barrage of gunfire.

"Lot of gunshots, lot of gunshots came outside seen a dead body on the ground," said one neighbor.

"I didn't expect to see what I saw. They were doing compressions on him," said another neighbor.

Police said Cousart has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Wilson has been charged with accessory after the fact and possession of a firearm by a felon, police said.

Truesdale is charged with murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
