SALISBURY, N.C. — A man was found dead on a driveway early Saturday morning, according to Salisbury police.
Officers found Jonathan Pierre Dillard, 30, on Park Avenue near an abandoned house. He had been shot, officials said.
Neighbors said they heard possible gunshots several hours before Dillard was found.
"You never know when a stray bullet is going to go through a window and hit you," neighbor Tom Stancil said.
Police found Dillard's body at about 4:45 a.m.
This is the third shooting in the area this year, according to residents.
In 2010, Dillard was arrested and accused of abducting his 4-month-old son.
Police have not said what led up to the shooting, or who may have killed Dillard.
Neighbors said the murder another senseless crime in their community.
"This is the third shooting," said one neighbor who did not want to be identified.
He said there were two other serious shootings in the area this year.
Police haven't confirmed that yet.
Channel 9 reached out to find out the exact number of violent crimes and shootings in that area since the start of the year. Police did not return that request before this story aired at 6 p.m.
Anyone with information regarding the case should call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5345.
