Police search for man who cut off ankle monitor for 2nd time

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for a man who cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet for the second time.

Police said DeShawn McManus, 20, was last seen Tuesday near the Plaza.

This is the second time he has cut off his bracelet in the past three months.  Last time, he turned himself in.

McManus has a long history of robbery and breaking and entering arrests.

This is not the first time this has happened. Just last month, another repeat offender cut off his monitor and got away for the third time in two years.

Channel 9 asked the head district court judge who oversees the monitoring program why these repeat offenders were not put back in jail, but never heard back.
