CHARLOTTE — The hunt is on for a driver who plowed their way onto a Topgolf course.

Video shows the SUV cover most of the hitting area.

One golfer told Channel 9’s Eli Brand the reaction quickly turned from surprise, to panic.

That witness says the driver was going up and down the field. He said the whole thing was entertaining at first, but ended up being pretty scary.

Laudyn Provost says he witnessed the incident around midnight Saturday night going into Sunday morning while he stood on the second floor of the Topgolf in University City.

“It was kind of shocking at first because I didn’t believe it,” he said. “I didn’t know what the heck it was at first.”

Provost grabbed his phone and started filming when he did get a better idea of what he was seeing. He said he watched as that car drove up and down the driving range, at one point getting near the back net where you can see what appears to be a large hole.

Eventually the car made its way closer to the golfers. Provost says that scared some people.

“The first floor started to panic when he started towards them,” he said. “If I was on the first floor, I would have panicked too, but I was on the second floor luckily. I don’t know, he was kind of out of control in a way.”

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department did take a report about the situation. The report says that people who work there told police an unknown person threatened staff and damaged property. The damage was valued at $5,000.

Police are still investigating.

Provost says this was like something he has never seen.

“All the chefs and managers and people at the bar area were all coming outside to look,” he said. “Everybody stopped what they were doing to see what was going on.”
