Man arrested, accused of robbing Matthews bank last summer

MATTHEWS, N.C. — After nearly a year, police have arrested the man they said robbed a bank in Matthews last summer.

Officers responded on July 10, 2020 to the State Employee’s Credit Union on Township Parkway. Police said the man walked in and demanded money from the tellers at gunpoint.

The thief ran from the bank before police arrived, heading toward East Independence Boulevard. Officers searched the area but were unable to find the man.

Police said no one was hurt during the robbery.

On Tuesday, Matthews police said they had arrested 52-year-old Hardin Lee Wright, of Matthews and charged him with robbery with a dangerous weapon. Wright was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail.

No other information about the crime or arrest was released.
