CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they seized seven guns -- including two ‘weapons of mass destruction’ -- in an incident earlier this month in University City.
It happened August 9 at The Union apartment complex, near the corner of University City Boulevard and Mallard Creek Church Road.
Police say someone at the complex called and reported seeing five young males “with long guns wearing ski masks” coming in and out of apartment 2302. The caller reported seeing one of them wearing an ankle monitor.
Police say when they arrived at the complex, they knocked on the door, but no one answered. They say they then called out one of the people inside “by his name with information provided by CMPD electronic monitoring.”
Police identified that man as 37-year-old Brandell Norman, who lives at the apartment. They say he exited with four other Black males.
Court documents say Around that time, officers on the scene saw that a “bag full of firearms with weapons of mass destruction attached had been dropped out of third-floor window from inside of the apartment.”
They say four more people then exited the apartment.
In total, officers say they seized seven guns, including a Glock 23 and an Omega 15 ARP. Court documents say those two firearms “contained devices commonly referred to as “switches” which turn semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic firearms.”
Four people were ultimately arrested: two juveniles, 37-year-old Brandell Norman, and 18-year-old Camarion Croutch.
Court documents in a previous case against Croutch say he is associated with a group called CGB or “Cartel Get Back,” and that there have been numerous incidents between that group and another known as BDG or “Back doe Gang.”
