Police seize cash, gambling machines at Monroe business

MONROE, N.C. — Officers with the Monroe Police Department seized thousands of dollars and illegal gambling devices during a search of a business off Old Morgan Hill Road Monday.

The business owner, 43-year-old Xiong Yang of Fort Mill, was arrested and charged with felonious illegal gambling.

The investigation began after a citizen brought concerns about the business to police.

Yang also had outstanding warrants from Mecklenburg County related to allegations that he previously operated a similar illegal gambling business.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department assisted the Monroe Police Department Special Response Team in executing the search warrant.
