MATTHEWS, N.C. — Two people have been arrested in connection with a homicide that happened on June 7 at the Holiday Inn Express in Matthews, police said.
Matthews Police Department responded to the Holiday Inn Express on E. Independence Boulevard after receiving a call at 12:36 a.m. that shots had been fired. When they arrived, officers found two men inside who had been shot. Both were taken to the hospital where one man, David Funches, later died.

Daniel Tyler Parker, 24, and Audrey Marie Medina, 22, got into a fight with Funches in a room and that’s when the victim was shot, Matthews police said.
Parker and Medina were charged with first-degree murder and are in the Mecklenburg County Jail.
