CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Idlewild Road North in east Charlotte was shut down for more than an hour Wednesday morning because of a police standoff in the area, officials said.

The road was closed around 8 a.m., between W.T. Harris Boulevard and Lawyers Road.

Police at the scene told Channel 9 that the standoff was taking place at an apartment complex off Snow Lane and that a man was taken into custody shortly after 9 a.m.

Albemarle Road Elementary School and Albemarle Road Middle School are very close to the standoff area, but CMS said they were not affected.
