3rd suspect arrested in connection with Gaston County homicide

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police arrested a third suspect Tuesday in connection with a homicide investigation that began after a body was found last month on Sawbill Lane in Gastonia.

A heavy police presence surrounded a north Charlotte neighborhood Tuesday.

Several residents were not able to get into their homes as police continued to show up at the scene on Orr Road.

Elmer Alexander Lopez, 31, of Charlotte was apprehended in that neighborhood and was charged with the homicide.

The body of Miguel Angel Valle was found Dec. 22 on Sawbill Lane in the Mallard Crossing subdivision off Crowders Creek Road.

The investigation led to a first-degree murder charge against Doris Maribel Alvarado-Peraza, 27, of Charlotte. She was an acquaintance of Valle.

Maynor Hernan Ortega, 33, of Charlotte was also charged with the homicide.
