Officers responded to a breaking and entering call around 11 a.m. at a home on Darbyshire Place.
Homeowner Michael Miles told Channel 9's Tina Terry that he woke up to someone knocking at his front door.
He said the knocks soon turned to loud kicks and that's when he knew something was wrong.
Miles works as a security guard, so he grabbed his gun and gave several warnings to the suspect.

When the kicking didn't stop, Miles said he fired his gun and the robber returned fire before running away.
“I’m happy I have that training, but I’m more happy that it happened to me rather than someone else who wasn’t trained,” he said. "It could have been a young lady who wasn’t able to protect herself.”
Police said no one was injured and they are still searching for the suspect.
