CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man was connected to a string of armed robberies around Charlotte and arrested, police officials announced Thursday.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Tony Andre Humphrey was involved in the April 6 Sonic robbery where he put a handgun against the manager’s head and pulled the trigger twice.

The gun did not fire either time.

Capt. Mike Smathers thinks the gun was loaded, that Humphrey had every intention of killing the worker.

"That was one of the most brazen robberies we've seen.  That's just pure cruelty toward that victim and we treated that case with that level of urgency," he said.

Humphrey was also connected to two robberies at the Regional Finance Corporation.

In all, Humphrey is facing 12 felony charges and one misdemeanor charge related to the robberies, police said.

Police said detectives are still investigating the crime, saying they are also pursuing federal charges against Humphrey.

Officers said Humphrey had help.  They are still looking for other suspects.
