Police: Woman left daughter in park, drove to Winston-Salem

SALISBURY, N.C. — A woman was arrested after her 10-year-old daughter was found in a park, according to the Salisbury Police Department.

Josephine Bombo is facing neglect charges after police said her daughter was left in a public park while Bombo went to Winston-Salem.

A woman said she was the little girl in a park crying. She spoke to the girl who told her that her mother left her at the park and drove to Winston-Salem.

The girl, who was found around 5 p.m. Wednesday, told neighbors her mother left her earlier that afternoon with no food and vowed to spank her if she went inside the house.

A sign in the park clearly states "adult supervision required."

One neighbor called police.  They tracked down Bombo to question her and say she justified her actions -- saying  she didn't leave the child alone -- but in the park with other little kids.

Investigators said she returned from Winston-Salem a short time later and they arrested her for neglect.

DSS released the 10-year-old girl in the custody of a neighbor. The neighbor said this is not the first time something like this has happened.
