Jamie Ager (D)
Why are you running?
I know firsthand the stress many small business owners and families face — navigating health insurance, making payroll, managing cash flow, and contending with rising costs. I understand why people feel abandoned by both parties, and I’m running to make sure no one feels unseen.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, our community was tested in ways we’d never imagined. Our family lost power and water for weeks, fences were destroyed, livestock scattered, and communication lines were down. But when things were bad, our neighbors showed up and strangers lent a hand.
I was so proud to see how people organized, shared what little they had, and rebuilt together. That experience reaffirmed my belief in the generosity of our community and highlighted how the government often lags behind in times of crisis. It also deepened my resolve to push for smarter, faster, and more responsive systems that actually meet people’s needs.
I will be a leader in DC who will serve with integrity and always put Western North Carolina first.
Is it time for the Iran war to end?
Yes.
The war in Iran has only made our problems worse. We should focus on making things less expensive here in Western North Carolina and using our tax dollars for Hurricane Helene recovery, not for wars overseas.
What legislation will you pursue to bring down costs?
I’m a businessman and a farmer so I’m focused on getting things done, not playing politics. I’ll stand up to the big corporations and work with anyone to pass meaningful legislation that lowers the cost of food, fuel, childcare, and housing in Western North Carolina.
How would you assess President Donald Trump’s second term so far?
It has not been good for Western North Carolina. Costs are way up and the federal government continues to drag its feet on Helene recovery.
What sets you apart from your opponents?
I will be a strong independent voice for Western North Carolina. Unlike my opponent, I am willing to buck my political party to put the needs of this community first. I will always fight for Western North Carolina.
