I-77 near uptown reopens following bridge inspection after tanker crash

CHARLOTTE — A portion of Interstate 77 near uptown Charlotte has reopened after road crews spent hours inspecting a bridge over the interstate following a crash earlier Friday.

The northbound lanes of I-77 were closed at the John Belk Freeway (Exit 9) because of the crash.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, crews needed to inspect the bridge taking Clarkson Street over the interstate for possible damage.

Officials said a tanker truck hit the bridge earlier.

Drivers had to be detoured to Exit 9 until the lanes reopened, which happened around 12:30 p.m.

No other information about the crash, or if anyone was injured, has been released.
